The Adirondack chair is an iconic symbol of a relaxing summer vacation. If you want to give yours a new lease on life, all it takes is a fresh coat of paint! Here’s how to paint an Adirondack chair in three easy steps.
Clean your chair thoroughly
Step one: use some elbow grease!
Outdoor furniture can collect a lot of dirt from exposure to spiders, birds, mould and more. Before you start painting, it’s important to clean the surface of your chair thoroughly, ideally with a brush. Depending on the chair’s condition, you can use soap and water or a wood cleaner, especially if there is a lot of mould. Rinse with a garden hose or pressure washer (set to low). Allow the chair to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Make sure you work in an area that is out of the wind. After your Adirondack chair is painted, it will need some time to dry, and you don’t want the wind to blow any debris or dust into the paint.
Sand your chair
Another important step is sanding your chair to help the paint adhere to the surface. You can do this manually or with a sanding machine.
Be sure to sand with the grain of the wood, starting with coarse sandpaper before switching to a finer grit. The idea is to make the surface smooth, so try not to create any grooves in the wood.
Finish by cleaning off all the sawdust, carefully scrubbing each corner with a microfibre cloth. Use a vacuum cleaner if there is a lot of dust.
Use exterior paint
Since this is a piece of outdoor furniture, it’s important to choose the right paint.
Don’t settle for anything less than high-quality exterior paint that’s both washable and durable. One paint that meets all these criteria is Splendi Supreme, a 100 % local BMR exclusive.
Splendi Supreme is a versatile acrylic paint suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s also a VOC-free formula, so you are guaranteed lower emissions of harmful substances.
The line includes a variety of finishes, including matte, satin, semi-gloss and gloss. You can also choose from a range of sizes, including 946 ml, 3.78 L and 18.9 L, to suit your specific needs.
Use a paintbrush to make it easier to get the paint into every nook and cranny. Finally, make sure the paint doesn’t drip.
