Bathroom trends for 2024 : All things warm and elegant

Our bathrooms are an integral part of our daily lives. They’re where we start and often end our day. That’s why it’s important to design yours with care and make it a personal oasis—a calming retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. To help you make the right decorating choices, we’ve put together our five favourite bathroom trends for 2024, presented in partnership with La Pièce.

1. Bring on the curves

From furniture to doors, walls, and even hardware, round shapes are all the rage! After a surge in popularity in the last few years, arches and curves are finally taking their rightful place in our living spaces.

In bathrooms, curves soften the space, add a touch of modernity and sophistication, and make the room feel calmer, warmer and more inviting. As for arched openings, they can be used to divide the space into different areas, improving the ergonomics and flow of the room.

2. Play with tile textures and colours, for your floor and your walls

Contrast is shaping up to be the next big thing in bathroom design, as a way to give a space personality. The trick is to combine different materials, textures, patterns and shapes into a seamless, harmonious whole.

Tiles with a matte finish mimic natural materials to create soft, inviting spaces. Conversely, ceramics with a satin finish bring more light into the room. Earthy, natural-toned tiles add richness to any decor.

Colourful tiles are also an eye-catching way to add charm and personality to any space, especially powder rooms.

3. Embrace warm colours

To make your bathroom a place where you’ll want to relax and unwind, opt for warmer tones.

Light is out, warm is in: we’re moving away from the very light wood tones popularized by the Scandinavian style, in favour of natural oak, walnut or any other wood in medium to dark tones. This palette will add texture and character to your decor.

Dark greys and blacks are always popular, especially if you’re going for a dramatic or romantic effect. And much like slate, ceramics in charcoal tones add character and elegance to any room.

Brass is a beloved classic that goes with everything. Use it to create an authentic, vintage feel that will stand the test of time.

If you’re going to use white in your bathroom, avoid cold, plain whites. For tiles, opt for handcrafted products in multiple shades of white. For walls, choose earthy hues and warm whites.

4. Add historical accents

The bathroom is the perfect place to incorporate modernized or restored furniture. Steeped in history and nostalgia, these classic touches are perfectly aligned with the tenets of sustainable design. Antique mirrors, clawfoot tubs, wood furniture, brass accents, checkerboard floors, patina: there are all kinds of ways to pay homage to the past.

5. Make your bathroom a peaceful haven

Making your bathroom a place where you can relax and unwind after a long day away from home requires good design and thoughtful planning. That’s where biophilic design can help.

Divide to conquer! Rethinking your bathroom layout can be an excellent way to make it a true haven. For example, you could put the toilet behind a partition for a little more privacy and free up some space to make the bathtub the focal point of the room. Ideally, it would be next to a window that lets in plenty of light and gives you a view of the lush greenery outdoors. For the shower, use the full surface of your walls, from floor to ceiling, to give it a more spacious feel and make room for any amenities that would up your comfort, such as a bench or niche.

All the trends presented in this article are based on two key concepts that are shaping bathroom design today. One is to mix a variety of materials, textures and colours to create a warm and inviting space. The other is to approach design in a sustainable way, incorporating smart and thoughtful choices so that your space transcends trends, withstands the test of time, and can grow with your family’s needs.
